Measurement Techniques and Challenges of Wireless LC Resonant Sensors: A Review

Mehedi Masud,
Patricia Vazquez,
Muhammad Riaz Ur Rehman
et al.

Abstract: Wireless operation of the LC resonant sensor is based on magnetic coupling between two inductive coils, where the inductor of the sensor acts as a secondary coil for the magnetic coupling. An external reader coil is used as a primary coil to interrogate the sensor to detect the sensor's response. The wireless LC resonant sensor is applied in many applications where the cable connections for powering sensors and acquiring data are inconvenient. This review focuses on the fundamental operating principles of wire… Show more

“…Since the 1960s, with the rapid development of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMSs), passive wireless sensing has been widely used for measuring parameters such as pressure, temperature, and other variables [ 20 , 21 ]. The main structure of this technology is the LC resonant circuit formed by the parallel inductance and capacitance, along with an additional readout coil [ 22 , 23 , 24 ]. The main working principle is to detect the resonance frequency and quality factor of the LC resonant circuit by using a readout coil.…”
