Measurement of Vital Signs by Lifelight Software in Comparison to Standard of Care Multisite Development (VISION-MD): Protocol for an Observational Study

Abstract: Background Measuring vital signs (VS) is an important aspect of clinical care but is time-consuming and requires multiple pieces of equipment and trained staff. Interest in the contactless measurement of VS has grown since the COVID-19 pandemic, including in nonclinical situations. Lifelight is an app being developed as a medical device for the contactless measurement of VS using remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) via the camera on smart devices. The VISION-D (Measurement of Vital Signs by Lifeligh… Show more

“…In Table 5 , the represented results of SpO 2 estimation from various articles are shown. It can clearly be seen that oxygen saturation could be measured with a 1.64% error or higher than 95% accuracy level using standard datasets like PURE or large customer datasets, as in Wiffen et al’s article [ 28 ].…”

The majority (around 80%) of research articles focused on remote heart rate estimation and a bit less on remote respiratory rate estimation.…”

“…Video recordings for this study were made during a cross-sectional observational study (VISION-MD; NCT04763746), which is evaluating Lifelight for the measurement of VS compared with current standard of care methods [ 27 ]. The study involves adults (aged ≥16 years) who are inpatients (including critically ill patients), outpatients, friends or relatives of patients, and members of hospital staff.…”

“…Other recent and relevant telemonitoring systems based on vital parameter monitoring are listed below. Specifically, Wiffen et al ( 2023 ) support the refinement of data collection and processing toward the development of a robust app that is suitable for routine clinical use, whereas Ko et al ( 2023 ) conducted in-person home visits at least once a day, with nursing visits up to 3 times a day for intravenous therapy; additionally, patients were discharged from the program when they met conventional inpatient discharge criteria. Murali ( 2023 ) offer a more effective way to keep track of the patient's medical system.…”
