Measurement of Troponin in Cardiomyopathies

Abstract: Troponins are thin myofilament proteins that regulate the contraction of cardiac and skeletal muscle. The cardio-specific troponin I (TnI) and T (TnT) proteins are sensitive and specific biomarkers of myocardial injury which over the past twenty years have revolutionised the diagnosis and management of myocardial infarction. With the advent of high sensitivity assays the role for cardiac troponins is possibly expanding. Elevated levels are associated with adverse cardiovascular events and mortality in heart fa… Show more

“…Increased serum concentrations of troponin T have also been linked to atrial fibrillation (AF) and tachycardia, and troponin increases in recently diagnosed AF patients predicts coronary artery disease [67][68][69]. Troponin T levels in serum has also been correlated with cardiomyopathy and increased OSA severity [70][71][72]. Annexin V is commonly used for detection of apoptotic processes using flow cytometry because of an affinity to phosphatidylserine [73].…”

“…Troponin is thin myofilament protein along with actin and tropomyosin that regulates the contraction of cardiac and skeletal muscle by binding to calcium. Cardiac troponin is a specific biomarker of cardiomyocyte injury and is used as an indicator of different kinds of heart damages and failures (Babuin & Jaffe, 2005; Connelly et al, 2016). In this study, there were no injuries in heart of resistant birds exposed to caffeine, and in this respect are clearly different from the results on mice model (Buscariollo et al, 2014).…”

“…Troponin is a protein found in skeletal and cardiac muscle that regulate their contraction. Additionally, troponin T2 is a very sensitive and specific biomarker of cardiomyocyte injury (Babuin & Jaffe, 2005; Connelly et al, 2016). Therefore, investigating these four candidate genes regulation will provide valuable information about the potential subclinical effects of caffeine on chicken's cardiovascular function, regulating myocardial oxygen consumption, contraction of the heart muscle, hypertrophy and remodelling at cellular level.…”
