Measurement of the Top Quark Mass andtt¯Production Cross Section from Dilepton Events at the Collider Detector at Fermilab

Abstract: We present an analysis of dilepton events originating from tt production inpp collisions at √ s = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 109 ± 7 pb −1 . We observe 9 candidate events, with an estimated background of 2.4 ± 0.5 events. We 2 determine the mass of the top quark to be Mtop = 161 ± 17(stat.) ± 10(syst.) GeV/c 2 . In addition we measure a tt production cross section of 8.2 +4.4 −3.4 pb (where Mtop = 175 GeV/c 2 has been assumed for the accepta… Show more

“…For the decay into the W bosons, the signal is similar to the top quark. One can use the measurements of the top quark production cross section at the Tevatron [20,21] and 199 GeV if the branching ratio is 100% [23]. This can also apply to the KK states of the b quark.…”
