Measurement of theADependence ofJψPhotoproduction

Abstract: J/ip photoproduction has been measured from beryllium and tantalum targets by observing the yield of single muons at a transverse momentum of 1.65 GeV/c with a bremsstrahlung beam of £ 0 = 20 GeV. The results have been interpreted in terms of a nuclearoptics model to yield the ^-nucleon total cross section. The result is oty A = 3.5± 0.8 mb.A search for ixe events produced in an antineutrino hydrogen-neon experiment using the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber is reported. Based on a single candidate, the 90%-confi… Show more

“…We express gV (0) as gV (0) = κgV (q 2 ) by using suppression factor κ. In the ψ cases, we take κ ≃ 0.4 [17,18], and in the ρ, ω cases, we take κ ≃ 1.0 [19,20]. Then the long distance contributions mediated by ψ, ρ, ω are (76) and if we calculate the form factor of K * |sγ µ (1 − γ 5 )b | B , the long distance contributions become as follows:…”

“…The small coherence and formation lengths allow extraction of the J/ψ-nucleon cross sections from the A-dependence of the J/ψ photoproduction cross section with minimal corrections to the colortransparency effects. The only such experiment done at sufficiently low energies [1078] obtained 3.5 ± 0.9 mb; the signal was extracted from a single-muon transverse momentum spectrum and the background level was not well understood. A new experiment at JLab can reduce the statistical and systematic errors by a factor of three.…”

“…One such constraint is the J/ψ absorption cross section by a nucleon, as this process can be viewed as the absorption of J/ψ by the virtual pion and rho meson cloud of the nucleon [20,21]. From J/ψ production in photon-and proton-nucleus reactions, the extracted cross section for J/ψ absorption by a nucleon is a few mb [22].…”
