Measurement of theνμcharged-current quasielastic cross section on carbon with the ND280 detector at T2K

Abstract: This paper reports a measurement by the T2K experiment of the ν μ charged current quasielastic (CCQE) cross section on a carbon target with the off-axis detector based on the observed distribution of muon momentum (p μ ) and angle with respect to the incident neutrino beam (θ μ ). The flux-integrated CCQE cross section was measured to be hσi ¼ ð0.83 AE 0.12Þ × 10 −38 cm 2 . The energy dependence of the CCQE cross section is also reported. The axial mass, M QE A , of the dipole axial form factor was extracted a… Show more

“…SciBooNE has also reported similar results [12]. The previous T2K off-axis CCQE measurement [13] was also consistent with a large effective M QE A . The T2K on-axis measurement [14] has large systematic uncertainties and is compatible with different values of M QE A , depending on whether only one muon track is reconstructed, or both the muon and proton tracks are reconstructed.…”

“…While there are differential measurements of the CCQE cross sections on carbon or hydrocarbon [6][7][8][9][10], there are none on water. The K2K experiment has published a measurement of the axial vector mass in neutrino-oxygen CCQE interactions [11] using the SciFi detector, but not a differential cross section measurement.…”

“…From now on, we rely on the SF approach to simulate CC QE events and employ a generalization of the standard formula (5) for the kinematic energy reconstruction [14]: in the case of mesonless events, we employ the invariant hadronic mass W = M , [17] and MiniBooNE [18,26] and the hydrocarbon measurements from MINERvA [23,24] and T2K [32,35]. For comparison, we also show the MiniBooNE data divided by 1.2.…”
