Measurement of theB+production cross section inpp¯collisions ats=

Abstract: We present a new measurement of the B + meson differential cross section dσ/dp T at √ s = 1960GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 739 pb −1 collected with the upgraded CDF detector (CDF II) at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. B + candidates are reconstructed through the decay B + → J/ψ K + , with J/ψ → µ + µ − . The integrated cross section for producing B + mesons with p T ≥ 6 GeV/c and |y| ≤ 1 is measured to be 2.78 ± 0.24 µb.

“…The total cross section for p B T > 5 GeV and jy B j < 2:2 is measured to be 33:2 AE 2:5 AE 3:5 b, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The expected cross sections can be calculated in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.…”

“…The central FONLL predictions [9] also lie below the data on the D 0 , D + , D * + and D + s cross sections which has been measured [5] by the CDF collaboration as a functions of their transverse momenta. Recently the calculations in the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme (GM-VFNS) were performed [10,11] for the transverse momentum distribution of B and D mesons and have been found to be consistent with the data [4,5]. However, there is still no GM-VFNS predictions for other measured quantities (like distributions in rapidity and azimuthal angle difference between the momenta of final mesons).…”

“…Past discrepancies between the Tevatron results (both from inclusive [5] and exclusive [8] measurements) and the next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD theoretical calculations, were recently resolved using the fixed-order next-to-leading-log (FONLL) approach and updated measurements of the b → J/ψ fragmentation and decay [9,10]. Measured cross-section values and spectra are also found to be in agreement with Monte Carlo generators following this approach, such as MC@NLO [11,12].…”
