Measurement of the knowledge levels of healthcare staff in the diagnosis and prevention of development of phlebitis and thrombophlebitis associated with intravenous infusion therapy

Abstract

ÖZAmaç: Bu çalışmada; intravenöz infüzyon tedavisine bağlı ebit ve trombo ebit gelişimini önleme ve tanılamada, sağlık çalışanlarının bilgi düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem:Tanımlayıcı nitelikte olan çalışmanın evreni ve ör-neklemini, 02.09.2013 -01.01.2014 tarihleri arasında İstanbul'da özel bir hastane ve üç eğitim araştırma hastanesinin yoğun bakım üniteleri ile yatan hasta katlarında intravenöz tedavi uygulayan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden gönüllü 100 hemşire, 12 ebe, 4 acil tıp teknisyeni oluşturmuştur. Veriler, intravenöz infüzyon tedavisinde bilinmesi gereken süreçlerle ile ilgili hazırlanan anketle toplanmıştır. 50 puan, 100 puan üzerinden performans kriteri olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Sağlık çalışanlarının aldıkları bilgi puanları 30 ile 90 puan arasında değişmekte olup, ortalaması 54.78 ± 11.74 puan olarak gö-rünmektedir. Çalıştıkları bölüme, mesleki deneyim ve eğitim durumlarına göre aldıkları puanlar istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık göster-memektedir (p>0.05).Sonuç: Sağlık çalışanlarının aldıkları bilgi puanı ortalaması performans kriterinin üzerindedir. Fakat ebit geliştiğinde yapılması gereken uygulamalar, lokal anestetik kullanımı, pansuman materyali ve akış kontrol cihazı seçimi, kateter değişim sıklığı konularında bilgilerinin yetersiz olduğu saptanmıştır. İntravenöz terapi ile ilgili hizmet içi eği-timlerinde bu konular yer almalıdır.Anahtar kelimeler: Flebit; infüzyon tedavisi; trombo ebit; bilgi düzeyi. ABSTRACTPurpose: This paper aims at determining the level of knowledge of healthcare staff in the diagnosis and prevention of intravenous infusion therapy related to the development of phlebitis and thrombophlebitis. Tool and Method:This research is a descriptive study. The sample of the research contains 100 nurses, 12 midwives, 4 emergency medical technician who are voluntarily participated in this research. They applied intravenous therapy at three educational research hospitals' and one private hospital's intensive care units and inpatient oors between 02.09.2013 -01.01.2014 in İstanbul. Data was collected by the infusion treatment processes questionnaire. 50 points is evaluated as the performance criteria over 100 points.Findings: Health workers knowledge points score ranges from 30 to 90 points and average seem to be 54.78 ± 11.74 points. Statistically there is no signi cant relationship between the scores and departments which they work, their professional competency and education. (p>0.05). Conclusion:Health workers knowledge point average is above the average performance criteria. But it has been determined that there is a lack of knowledge mostly on the issues of the practices that should be applied upon the development of phlebitis, use local anesthetics, selecting dressing material and ow control device, catheter replacement frequency. These ıssues should take place in intravenous therapy service trainings.
