Measurement of the axial dispersion coefficient of powders in a rotating cylinder: dependence on bulk flow properties

Abstract: Rotating drums are encountered in numerous industrial applications, including blenders, rotary calciners, impregnators, coaters, granulators, and cement mixers. In all of these devices, the rotation of the drum is used to engender mixing of the granular material in the radial direction. Axial mixing, because of its significantly lower rate, can also have an impact on the process performance, especially when control of residence time is important. Typically, the particle dynamics in rotating drums are quantifie… Show more

“…[14] As a result, many characterization techniques have been developed, [15] and efforts have been made to correlate and compare the results obtained in different measurement devices. [16][17][18][19][20] The shear cell methodology, which was originally developed by A. W. Jenike for design of hoppers and silos, [21] is one of the most common powder flow characterization techniques. It has been an engineering practice to classify and rank the flowability of different materials according to the extracted flow function coefficient (ffc).…”

“…According to their hypothesis, the intensity of light reflected from the surface was proportional to the concentration of the material that changed the color in the sample and that was determined by calculation. 47 The main objective of the applied process is to detect the color hue differences resulting from reinforcement particles. The color change factor, Δ E , is measured by color measurement device and it gives the total chromatic aberration.…”
