“…Cor-onary venous blood draining into the coronary sinus mixes with the injectate and is cooled by an amount proportional to the rate of venous blood flow. Coronary sinus flow is then calculated from the temperature and infusion rate of the injectate, and the temperature of the bloodhnjectate mixture near the coronary sinus ostium, by applying established formulae [ 11. In dogs, excellent correlations have been shown between thermodilution estimates of coronary sinus flow and either timed direct collections of coronary sinus blood [l] or electromagnetic measurements of coronary arterial inflow [4]. Arterial inflow, measured by electromagnetic flow transducers applied to the coronary arteries at the time of surgery, and venous flow, measured by thermodilution, have also shown good correlation in a human study [ 5 ] .…”
