Measurement of Radon Concentration in Water within Ojo Axis of Lagos State, Nigeria

Abstract: Background: The problem of radon (Radon-222) in water is one of the daily health hazards faced by those in Ojo Axis, Nigeria. Therefore, continuous monitoring of radon contamination in different types of water is essential. In the present work, sixteen groundwater and surface-water samples (wells, boreholes, and sachets) were collected from six different locations within the Ojo Local Government area in Nigeria. The water samples collected were stored in 75 cl bottles that were already sterilized with distille… Show more

“…The study was done using the RAD7, an active electronic device made in the United States by the Durridge Company. The level of radon in the water is higher than the allowed level of 11.1 Bq/L [22] . (Elzain, 2014) estimated radon concentrations in 248 water samples collected from various water bodies in Sudan using a solid-state nuclear trace detector.…”

“…Previous research was primarily devoted to radon concentration measurement in drinking water sources with little or no attention to the associated health hazards (Alomari et al, 2019;Garba et al, 2013;Kessongo et al, 2020;Mostafa et al, 2022;Sharma et al, 2018) and on the basis of the available literature from the present study locations, no study of this nature has been conducted in these communities. It is therefore.…”
