Measurement of prompt charged-particle production in pp collisions at $$ \sqrt{\mathrm{s}} $$ = 13 TeV

Abstract: The differential cross-section of prompt inclusive production of long-lived charged particles in proton-proton collisions is measured using a data sample recorded by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV. The data sample, collected with an unbiased trigger, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 nb−1. The differential cross-section is measured as a function of transverse momentum and pseudor… Show more

“…A good proxy for light hadron production is the production of prompt 2 long-lived charged particles. The precision achieved in this measurement [37] is useful for an improved simulation of the underlying events in collisions at the LHC and of the interactions in the Earth's atmosphere that cause air showers. A small set of loose requirements is used to maintain high selection efficiency and the analysis uses an unbiased trigger.…”

“…Prompt charged particles were studied in two separate analyses; in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV [26,27], and at 5 TeV in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions [26,27]. Both analyses report the double differential cross-sections in p T and pseudorapidity η; the latter also reports the nuclear modification factor.…”
