“…Many fractures have formed in coal after the long-term geological process, which significantly influences coal seam gas (CSG) development [1,2]. Multiple scale fractures have been investigated, ranging from nanoscale to field scale with hundreds of meters [3][4][5][6]. Microscale fracture analysis is mainly based on focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) [7], scanning electron microscopy (SEM) [8], nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) [9], X-ray micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) [10].…”

“…Coal seam groups are widely distributed in mining areas of different regions in China, especially closely spaced coal seam groups (Wang et al 2013). Selecting a coal seam with the optimal reliability factor as the first mining seam is necessary to achieve safe and high-efficiency mining due to the diversified conditions of coal seams during mining (Wang et al 2017;Li et al 2021;Wu et al 2018). Reasonable selection of the first mining seam not only contributes to realizing orderly gas draining-tunneling-mining planning but can also reduce or eliminate the risk of gas outbursts, which is of great significance for realizing safe production.…”

“…In China, due to the disorder and over boundary mining of small coal mines, many anfractuous abandoned roadways (ARs) were left in coal seams [1][2][3][4][5]. A large danger of safety and efficiency would happen when the longwall mining panel face passes through the ARs.…”
