Measurement of interphase forces based on dual-modality ERT/DP sensor in horizontal two-phase flow gas-water

Abstract: In order to better understand the mechanisms of two-phase flow and the prevailing flow regimes in horizontal pipelines, the evaluation of interphase forces is paramount. This study develops a method to quantitatively estimate the interphase force in two-phase gas-water flow in horizontal pipeline. The electrical resistance tomography technology is used to measure the void fraction, while the differential pressure perpendicular to the horizontal pipe is measured in different flow patterns via a Differential Pre… Show more

“…13 As a measurement technique for two-phase and multiphase flows, ERT combines computer application technology with modern detection methods. 14 ERT provides valuable information about flow characteristics, such as gas/solid, gas/liquid, and liquid/ liquid flows. As an online measurement technique, ERT offers advantages like visualization, low cost, noninvasiveness, and robustness, making it a recognized technology in process applications.…”

“…Recently, electrical tomography, particularly electrical resistance tomography (ERT), has gained popularity due to its visualization capabilities, noncontact nature, lack of flow field interference, and reduced environmental impact . “…Angeli and Hewitt [6] investigated the flow pattern identification of Oil-water two-phase flow in horizontal pipes with 25.4 mm inner diameter; namely high-speed video recording and determination of the local phase fractions with a high frequency impedance probe, while the continuous phase in dispersed flows was recognized with a conductivity needle probe. Dong et al [7], Sun and Yang [8], Fang et al [9] tried to measure separate phase fraction and distinguish flow pattern of Oil-water flows, gas-water flows, gas-Oil-water flows by using the single modality electrical capacitance tomography (ECT), electrical resistance tomography (ERT), or the dual-modality ECT/ERT, the accuracy of separate phase fraction measurement is highly dependent on the quality of image reconstruction.…”
