Measurement of inclusive double-differential νμ charged-current cross section with improved acceptance in the T2K off-axis near detector

Abstract: We report a measurement of the flux-integrated cross section for inclusive muon neutrino chargedcurrent interactions on carbon. The double-differential measurements are given as a function of the muon momentum and angle. Relative to our previous publication on this topic, these results have an increased angular acceptance and higher statistics. The data sample presented here corresponds to 5.7 × 10 20 protons on target. The total flux-integrated cross section is measured to be ð6.950 AE 0.662Þ × 10 −39 cm 2 nu… Show more

“…An unregularized binned likelihood fit with control sample to constrain the background is performed as in Refs. [15,17,65]. This analysis method guarantees a negligible dependence on the signal model used in the simulation for the correction of detector effects, provided that a too coarse binning is not used.…”

“…This is the first test of neutrino event generators against double-differential neutrino scattering data on argon. As is also seen in comparisons to neutrino data on carbon [33,34], high χ 2 values between data and predictions are observed taking into account the full covariance matrix with off-diagonal elements (not displayed in Fig. 2).…”

“…The analysis is performed using a binned likelihood fit with control samples to constrain the background, similarly to what is done in Ref. [14][15][16]55] in order to extract the selected number of signal events, unfolded from the detector response. This method is chosen as, in its unregularized form, it ensures no dependence on the signal model used in the simulation for the correction of detector smearing effects.…”
