Measurement of inclusive charged current interactions on carbon in a few-GeV neutrino beam

Abstract: The SciBooNE Collaboration reports a measurement of inclusive charged current interactions of muon neutrinos on carbon with an average energy of 0.8 GeV using the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam. We compare our measurement with two neutrino interaction simulations: NEUT and NUANCE. The charged current interaction rates (product of flux and cross section) are extracted by fitting the muon kinematics, with a precision of 6-15% for the energy dependent and 3% for the energy integrated analyses. We also extract CC … Show more

“…Because of the interest in oscillation measurements, various experimental neutrinonucleus differential cross sections have been presented [16][17][18][19][20][21] and are planned in the near future [22][23][24]. A clear understanding of neutrino-nucleus reactions with a precise determination of differential cross sections is crucial for a proper analysis of the experimental data.…”

“…Figure 6 compares the measured isoscalar-corrected charged-current inclusive ν μ cross section to the MINOS [17], T2K [52][53][54], CCFR [15], Argoneut [55,56] IHEP-JINR [57], NOMAD [10], NuTeV [16], CDHS [58], and IHEP-ITEP [59] measurements. Not shown are the Gargamelle [60] and SciBooNE [6] results, which reported less precise neutrino cross sections within the plotted energy range. MINOS measured inclusive cross sections on iron using the low-ν flux technique.…”

“…Figure 6 shows the isoscalar-corrected inclusive chargedcurrent cross sections for both ν μ andν μ with combined statistical and systematic uncertainties. 6 By definition, the systematic uncertainties collapse to the normalization uncertainty in the 9-12 GeV bin. The ν μ cross section TABLE I. Normalization factors (η) and their statistical uncertainties for neutrinos and antineutrinos by ν 0 sample and the total event yields.…”

“…Some example CC neutrino and antineutrino cross-sections are shown in Figure 6.2. For the T2K analysis, the NEUT cross-section tuning was updated using data from SciBooNE [131][132], MiniBooNE [133], K2K [134], and other experiments. The contributions from CCQE, resonant pion production (CC1π), and deep inelastic scattering are shown.…”
