“…Background H 2 O 2 levels in the simulated residential room during unperturbed periods prior to cleaning applications were on average (±SD) 0.64 (±0.43) ppbv, below the detection limit (64% of data were below LOD). This is comparable to H 2 O 2 mixing ratios observed in urban ambient outdoor atmospheres (<1 ppbv) 42,43 but higher than those in an unperturbed office and a simulated indoor environment (<0.26 ppbv) using offline sampling and analytical methods. 23,24 To provide context, the average H 2 O 2 mixing ratios measured in a unperturbed student office and an engineering laboratory during ROCC were 1.6 (±1.1) and 2.1 (±0.49) ppbv, respectively.…”

“…Gaseous POs have been ubiquitously detected in the atmosphere (Table ), with implications on atmospheric radical budget and oxidation capacity. Methyl hydroperoxide (MHP) is the simplest and most abundant PO in the atmosphere. ,, The MHP level was measured at up to 1.5 ppb in the marine boundary layer of the tropical South Atlantic, 1.4 ppb in North America, up to 2.5 ppb in central Europe, 0.5–2 ppb in South Korea, 0.1–3 ppb in central Japan, and up to 2 ppb in different regions of China. ,,,, PAA is another important atmospheric PO with contributions to the oxidation capacity and SOA formation in the troposphere. ,, A maximum level of 1 ppb PAA with a diurnal peak occurring in the afternoon over rural and urban China was reported by Zhang et al Other C 1 and C 2 gaseous POs such as bishydroxymethyl hydroperoxide, hydroxymethyl hydroperoxide, 1-hydroxy-ethyl hydroperoxide, and ethyl hydroperoxide were also measured with concentrations up to 0.8 ppb at a rural site in southern China by Hua et al using online HPLC with postcolumn derivatization and fluorescence detection, and the formation of these small POs was found to be mostly related to the local photochemical activity.…”

“…Considering the important roles of H 2 O 2 in tropospheric chemistry as well as its adverse impact on the ecosystem, a growing number of measurements for atmospheric H 2 O 2 have been reported in different places, including urban, rural and mountain sites as well as airborne measurements (Gong et al., 2018; Lee et al., 1997; Liang et al., 2013; Tanner & Schorran, 1995; Walker et al., 2006; Wang et al., 2016; Watanabe et al., 2016; Zhang et al., 2018). In general, relatively high H 2 O 2 levels (from several ppb to more than 10 ppb) usually occur in polluted regions or pollution plumes, for example, H 2 O 2 mixing ratio up to 11.3 ppb was observed in a seriously polluted rural site in China (Wang et al., 2016) and 11.5 ppb in pollution plumes during flights in the marine troposphere (O'Sullivan et al., 1999).…”
