Measurement of gamma-ray production cross sections for nuclear reactions 14N(d,pγ)15N and 28Si(d,pγ)29Si

Abstract: In this work the differential cross sections for gamma-ray emission from the 14 implanted Si detector at 135 0 with respect to the beam direction in the deuteron energy range 0.65 -2.0 MeV. The target was a thin silicon-nitride film. Gamma-ray angular distribution measurements were performed to determine the possible anisotropy of the gamma-ray emission, and the measured cross section values were converted into total gamma-ray producing cross sections for most of the gamma-ray emissions. The average uncertain… Show more

“…They can be used as electrical insulators or a diffusion barrier when they are used as a mask [3]. Furthermore, because of their high mechanical resistance the silicon-nitride thin films are commonly used as a high-vacuum window-for example in accelerator based external ion beam applications or atmospheric scanning electron microscopy-or in nuclear physics experiments as a nitrogen and silicon standard material [4][5][6].…”

“…For a more detailed description of the experimental setup and also for the procedure of the determination of the absolute efficiency of HPGe detector (ε abs ) and the solid angle of the Si detector (Ω), see ref. [11]. The uncertainty of the determination of N p (stochastic and systematic uncertainties together) was taken into account with 3%.…”

“…The 12 C(d,pγ) 13 C nuclear reaction has already been applied in materials science for the determination of carbon in steels [1] and to characterize high purity, high performance thin films produced by metal-organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) technique. Regarding the characterization of thin films, the advantage of the PIGE method is its sensitivity; it is capable to detect rather low carbon concentrations and C/O ratios in the presence of different kind of substrates [2,3].…”

“…The aim of this work is to determine reliable cross section data for the 12 C(d,pγ) 13 C nuclear reaction by carrying out the measurement of gamma-ray producing cross sections with the detection of gamma-and particle yields simultaneously. In this paper we report on the measurements of the total In order to test the measured cross sections in relation to the thick target yields, benchmark experiments were performed.…”
