Measurement of differential cross sections for muon-neutrino electron scattering

Abstract: We report on a study of the dierential cross sections d=dy for the processes of elastic -and -electron scattering. The data on which this analysis is based were recorded between 1987 and 1990 with the CHARM II detector in the wide band neutrino beam at the CERN-SPS. For the rst time the shapes of these y-distributions have been determined in a modelindependent w a y . A t to the data yields for the squares of the neutral coupling constants the ratio g 2 R =g 2 L = 0 : 60 0:19 (stat:) 0:09 (syst:).

“…However, from the experimental publications, the exact neutrino fluxes seem to be unknown and the SM prediction of the differential cross section given in [70] seems to be determined by a shape fit. Therefore, we are in doubt whether a rigorous calculation of the neutrino rate R at CHARM-II is possible and whether the χ 2 -fit used for limit determination in [8] is applicable.…”

“…There are various neutrino-electron scattering experiments which are mainly TEXONO [13][14][15], BOREXINO [16], GEMMA [17] as well as LSND [18] and CHARM II [19]. A light dark photon could be searched using these data.…”

“…While the B − L breaking scale χ = m Z /(2g B−L ) is constrained to be larger than 3.45 TeV from LEP-II [3][4][5][6], these limits are not applicable when m Z becomes too small. Neutrino scattering experiments set an effective limit on χ 1 TeV [7][8][9][10][11]. The wider m Z − g B−L parameter space can for example be explored using the Constraints On New Theories Using Rivet (CONTUR) method for m Z 1 GeV incorporating ATLAS and CMS results [12,13].…”
