Measurement of charm production cross sections ine+eannihilation at energies between 3.97 and 4.26 GeV

Abstract: Using the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have measured inclusive and exclusive cross sections for the production of D + , D 0 and D + s mesons in e + e − annihilations at thirteen center-of-mass energies between 3.97 and 4.26 GeV. Exclusive cross sections are presented for final states consisting of two charm mesons

“…at 90% C.L.. A puzzling phenomenon of the Y(4260) is that it is absent in the R value scan [137,138,139,140,129,141], which is the challenge to the traditional vector charmonium interpretation of the Y(4260). We note that the R value denotes the ratio of the rate of hadron production to that for muon pairs in the annihilation of e + e − pair, i.e., R = σ(e + e − → hadrons)/σ(e + e − → µ + µ − ).…”

“…Such exclusive e þ e − cross sections to various open-charm final states were first measured at B-factories by Belle [12][13][14][15][16][17] and BABAR [18][19][20] using the initial-state radiation (ISR) processes, and by CLEO [21] using an energy scan in the range ffiffi ffi s p ¼ 3.97-4.26 GeV. The ISR process, in which a hard photon with a significant part of the initial energy is emitted before the electron-positron annihilition, allows one to measure e þ e − cross sections at the center-ofmass energies below the energy of the B-factory.…”
