Music has always been used as a tool ofinfluence towards people's emotions in all kinds of situations for many years, with a wide range of objectives. However, it has started to awake the interest of the science field. In this paper, a research has been carried out regarding the latest investigations about the relationship between the structural characteristics of musical stimuli-tempo, mode, rythm, consonance, intensity, etc.-and its effects on a living organism at a psychophysiological level-heart rate, respiration rate, electrodermal activity, piloerection, arousal and affectivevalence-in order totake into consideration how the possible results could have an impact on emotional disorders. The results, despite presenting some limitations regarding the methodological type, trigger a branch of promising investigation, making up a theoretical justification for the use of the music as a therapy, under a scientific base.
