Measurement Invariance of the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS) in Peruvian and Spanish Older Adults

Abstract: Although the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS) has been validated in some European and American countries, there are no studies that evaluate its factorial invariance among different nations. In this sense, the objective of the study is to evaluate the factorial invariance of the BRCS in samples of older adults in Peru and Spain, using multigroup Confirmatory Factor Analysis. 236 older adults from Peru participated (Mean age = 72.8, SD = 6.90) and 133 older adults from Spain (Mean age = 71, SD = 7). In the P… Show more

“…Resilient coping was measured using the Brief Resilient Coping Scale ( Sinclair and Wallston, 2004 ; BRCS), which has been adapted to the Spanish language by Tomas et al (2021) . This short scale consists of four items (e.g., “I look for creative ways to alter difficult situations,” “I believe I can grow in positive ways by dealing with difficult situations”).…”

“…Yang and Wen (2015) (Sinclair and Wallston, 2004). The scale consists of four items designed to capture the tendency to cope with stress in a highly adaptive manner and has been validated for measurement invariance in Peruvian and Spanish elderly people (Tomas et al, 2021).…”

“…It is defined as a 4-item measure designed to capture tendencies to cope with stress in a highly adaptive way. The BRCS is a short unidimensional scale that aims to assess people's ability to cope with stress adaptively and is easy to apply and interpret (Tomas et al, 2021 ).…”
