Measurement and Numerical Evaluation of AC Losses in a ReBCO Roebel Cable at 4.5 K

Abstract: Abstract-EUCARD2 aims to research ReBCO superconducting magnets for future accelerator applications. The properties of ReBCO conductors are very different from low temperature superconductors. To investigate dynamic field quality, stability and normal zone propagation an electrical network model for coated conductor cables was developed. To validate the model two identical samples were prepared at CERN after which measurements were taken at the University of Twente and Southampton University. The model predict… Show more

“…Alternatively, methods taking the current density as state variable may reduce the number of DoFs, since only the sample volume is taken into account. For 2D problems, this has been done by the variational method in J formulation [18], integral methods [27,28] and circuit methods [29]. In this work, an Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) strategy for Nédélec elements has been implemented.…”

“…EuCARD-2 also promoted investigations on the magnetization, AC loss and inter-tape resistance of REBCO Roebel cables [62][63][64]. Two measurement campaigns were carried out at the University of Twente and at the Southampton University on 15-tape SuperPower-type Roebel cable samples prepared at KIT and impregnated with CDT-101K at CERN.…”

“…Measurements from recent Roebel and CORC R dipole magnets show no pronounced dynamic field errors [174,187]. More measurements on magnets and cables preferably with different R c will be useful to address the question [188,189].…”
