Measurement and mapping of maternal health service coverage through a novel composite index: a sub-national level analysis in India

Abstract: Background Expansion of maternal health service coverage is crucial for the survival and wellbeing of both mother and child. To date, limited literature exists on the measurement of maternal health service coverage at the sub-national level in India. The prime objectives of the study were to comprehensively measure the maternal health service coverage by generating a composite index, map India by categorizing it into low, medium and high zones and examine its incremental changes over time. … Show more

“…From model three, we noticed that the regression coefficients of all independent variables are significant. This also indicates that human care (x 1 ), public environment (x 2 ), and social economy (x 4 ) have a significant influence on the overall satisfaction of the community's aging construction (y) ( 30 , 31 ). Therefore, the regression model is established as formula (1):…”

“…Subsequently, we performed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on both datasets and successfully confirmed the presence of HAIs in them. There are several different methods that might be used for the construction of an index, for example the UNDP approach ( 14 , 15 ), Principal component analysis ( 16 ) etc. CFA was the most suitable method as it allowed us to test specific hypotheses regarding the underlying factor structure and the model’s fit to the data.…”

“…Moreover, the increasing availability of detailed geographic data is allowing the integration of more realistic measures of travel time to health facilities into assessments of geographic accessibility [28,41,42] Other studies on maternal care access use composite indices that combine into a single measure either multiple types of maternal health care (antenatal, delivery and postnatal care), or multiple factors related to geographic accessibility (e.g. travel time, transportation options, and topographical constraints) [43][44][45]. In contrast, we analyzed each maternal care indicator separately, revealing how geographic accessibility can impact them differently.…”
