Measurement and correlation of the solubility of 3,4-bis(3-nitrofurazan-4-yl)furoxan (DNTF) in different solvents

Solubilities of 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one (NTO) were measured in 10 pure solvents (deionized water, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, formic acid, ethyl acetate, acetonitrile, toluene, n-hexane) and 3 binary solvents (ethanol + water, nitric acid + water, N-methyl pyrrolidone + water) from 278.15 to 328.15 K using gravimetric methods. The measured solubility data in pure solvents were fitted by a polynomial empirical equation, the van't Hoff equation, and the modified Apelblat equation, among which the modified Apelblat equation is the best empirical model for correlating the solubility of NTO in pure solvents. The modified Apelblat equation, the CNIBS/R-K equation, and the Jouyban−Acree equation were adopted to correlate the experimental solubility data in three binary solvents. In binary solvents, all fitted results agree well with the measured solubilities of NTO. This work can provide guidance for further crystallization researches of NTO.

The solubilities of an energetic material, 5,5′-dinitramino-3,3′-bi[1,2,4-triazolate] carbohydrazide salt (CBNT), were measured in eleven pure solvents (deionized water, methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, isopropanol, ethyl acetate, 1,2-dichloroethane, acetone, N,N-dimethylformamide, N-methyl pyrrolidone, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)) and a binary solvent mixture of (DMSO + water) under atmospheric pressure using a gravimetric method. The solubility data in pure solvents were fitted using the modified Apelblat equation. The solubility data of CBNT in binary solvents were correlated by the modified Apelblat equation, the combined nearly ideal binary solvent Redlich–Kister (CNIBS/R-K) model and the Jouyban–Acree model. All the fitting processes gave satisfying values of the correlation coefficient (R 2) and the root-mean-square-deviation. The measurements and the correlation of CBNT solubility provide fundamental data for its practical application.

The solubilities of 3,4-dinitro-1H-pyrazole (DNP) in different solvents are essential for crystallization and further theoretical studies. In this paper, the solubilities of DNP in six pure solvents were determined in temperatures ranging from 298.15 K to 338.15 K by the dynamic laser monitoring method under atmospheric pressure. The results showed that the solubility of DNP in each tested solvent increases with the increasing temperature. Melting temperature T m and fusion enthalpy ΔH fus of DNP were determined using differential scanning calorimetry. Solubility data was correlated by the modified Apelblat equation, λh equation, Wilson model and nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model, and these results showed that all models can give satisfactory correlation results. Therefore, the experimental data and model parameters would provide essential support for industrial design. Furthermore, on the basis of the NRTL model and solubility data, the dissolution thermodynamic properties, including enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs energy were determined.
