Measurement and Correlation of the Thermal Conductivity of 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-Nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone

Abstract: New experimental data for the thermal conductivity of 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone (Novec 649) are reported for vapor, liquid and supercritical states. These new experimental data were obtained with transient hot-wire apparatus over the temperature range from 183 K to 501 K and at pressures from 0.02 MPa to 69 MPa. These data were used to develop a wide-range correlation for the thermal conductivity of the vapor, liquid and supercritical fluid. The experimental data reported her… Show more

“…where n, the number of terms in the summation, is six or less and the B coefficients are determined by regressing experimental data. Many of the formulations in REFPROP are of this type, for example in refs 65,69,81,112,166,194,198,200,206, and 231. The last term in eq 7, Δλ c , is used to represent the behavior in the critical region.…”

“…For R1233zd(E), the average and maximum absolute deviations between our experimental results and the correlation based on eq were 0.75% and 2.11%. Figure also includes the calculated data from NIST REFPROP 10.0, in which thermal diffusivity was calculated by where λ is calculated by the correlation from the work of Perkins et al At the same time, ρ and c p were calculated by the equation of state of Mondejar et al The deviations between the data from NIST REFPROP 10.0 and our experimental results were within 3%. The thermal diffusivity was also reproduced using the measured heat capacity c p from Liu et al, ρ was also calculated by the equation of state of Mondejar et al, and λ was calculated by the correlation from the work of Perkins et al The maximum deviation between the recalculated results from our experimental data was increased to 6% at 343 K.…”

“…The huge deviation may be ascribed to the lack of experimental heat capacity data. For Novec1230, the calculated thermal diffusivity was only derived from the empirical equation. , …”

“…with coefficients B i,j given in Table 2, where p is the molar density and p c is the critical density. This functional form has been used successfully to represent the thermal conductivity of several promising new refrigerants such as (1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-Nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone, [22] R-1234yf, [23] R-1234ze(E), [23] and R-1233zd(E).
