Measurement and Calculation of Fissure Area and Density for Shrinkage Soil

Abstract: Fissure density is an important evaluation indicator of the degree of fissure development for fissure soils, which is not easily measured by traditional methods. A new statistical method based on Visual Basic programming was proposed to calculate fissure density. The basic principle of this method is to convert colour pixels into black-white pixels based on brightness calculation, and then calculate the fissure density according to the proportion of black-white pixels. Through the above methods, the statistics… Show more

“…During dry-wet cycles, some blended soil samples produced irregular fissures on the surface, and it is difficult to count the length of fissures by traditional methods. It can be measured by AutoCAD multisegment line tracking method, and then the actual length of cracks can be obtained by unit conversion [33].…”

“…However, red clay has high shear strength due to iron cementation in the case of low saturation [24][25][26], and the high cohesion of red clay can be used for specific improvement of CWP. The research shows that the shear strength of blended soil increases with the increase of red clay blending ratio, and the improvement method can also reduce the expansibility of CWP and the fissure rate of red clay undergo dry-wet cycles [27,28].…”
