Measles Virus

Abstract: Measles virus (MV) is responsible for a childhood infection characterised by a maculopapular rash, dry cough, coryza, conjunctivitis and photophobia. Although mild in developed countries, the infection is associated with significant morbidity in developing countries and still kills more than 200 000 children per annum even though it is a vaccine preventable disease. The virus replication cycle is well understood and the molecular description of the virus has progressed to a stage where the main e… Show more

“…The nucleocapsid core of the measles virus is made up of the viral RNA genome, which is tightly bound to the nucleoprotein (N protein) and is associated with the viral polymerase complex [9]. The RNA genome is approximately 15,894 nucleotides in length and encodes six structural proteins (N, P, M, F, H, and L) and two nonstructural proteins (V and C).…”

“…The RNA genome is approximately 15,894 nucleotides in length and encodes six structural proteins (N, P, M, F, H, and L) and two nonstructural proteins (V and C). These proteins are synthesized from a set of seven distinct mRNAs, which are transcribed from the viral RNA genome [9].…”
