Mean pion multiplicities in Ar+Sc collisions

Abstract: Preliminary results for mean negatively charged pion multiplicities π − using the h − method are presented for central Ar+Sc collisions at 13, 19, 30, 40, 75 and 150A GeV/c beam momentum. The data were recorded by the NA61/SHINE detector at the CERN SPS. Starting with rapidity distributions dn/dy the procedure of obtaining total multiplicities is presented. The mean number of wounded nucleons W extracted from the Glissando MC model is used to calculate the ratio π − / W . The results are compared to those from… Show more

“…The negatively charged pion spectra in p+p [4], central Be+Be [5,6] and central Ar+Sc collisions [7,8,9] were derived in large acceptance from unidentified negatively charged hadron spectra using the so-called h − method. The method is based on the fact that the majority of negatively charged particles produced in p+p and ion+ion collisions are pions.…”
