Mean Activity Coefficients of KBr in KBr+K2B4O7+H2O Ternary System at 298.15 K Determined by the Electromotive Force Method

Abstract: The mean activity coefficients of KBr in the KBr+K 2 B 4 O 7 +H 2 O ternary system were determined at the total ionic strength ranging from 0.0100 mol• kg −1 to 2.0000 mol•kg −1 at 298.15 K by an electromotive force method from the cell without liquid junction: K-ISE|KBr(m 1 ),K 2 B 4 O 7 (m 2 )|Br-ISE. The mean activity coefficients of KBr were compared with those different ionic strength fractions y B of K 2 B 4 O 7 with y B = (0.8, 0.6, 0.4, 0.2, and 0). The experimental results showed that K-ISE and Br-ISE… Show more

“…Due to the physicochemical properties of ILs, they may have many different industrial uses . Activity coefficients and osmotic coefficients of electrolyte solutions are extremely useful to test new electrolyte solution theories. Even though activity coefficients of ammonium ILs have been reported in aqueous solutions by the isopiestic method, to our knowledge, research papers about the activity coefficients of NaCl in ILs + water are still scarce, and studies of mean ionic activity coefficients of NaCl reported in the literature for ternary liquid mixtures are still limited. …”

“…China’s western Sichuan Basin is rich in underground brine resources, and the content is huge. In addition to a large amount of NaCl, the brine composition also contains boron, potassium, bromine, and sulfate . The development of bromine-rich underground brine water resources can make up for the shortage of bromine resources and have high economic value.…”

“…In recent years, reports on the mean ionic activity coefficient and osmotic coefficient using the Pitzer model have been continuously increasing , most of which were related to room temperature, such as the mean ionic activity coefficients of NaCl in NaCl–Na 2 SO 4 –H 2 O and NaCl–MgCl 2 –H 2 O at 298.15 K. Our research team has also carried out some work in this area and achieved certain results. For example, the mean ionic activity coefficients of NaBr in NaBr–SrBr 2 –H 2 O, KBr in KBr–K 2 B 4 O 7 –H 2 O, NaCl in NaCl–CdCl 2 –H 2 O, and NaCl in NaCl–SrCl 2 –H 2 O at 298.15 K were measured.…”
