MDA-based ontology infrastructure

Abstract: The paper presents Ontology Definition Metamodel (ODM) and Ontology UML Profile that enables using Model Driven Architecture (MDA) standards in ontological engineering. Other similar metamodels are based on ontology representation languages, such as RDF(S), DAML+OIL, etc. However, none of these other solutions uses the recent W3C effort-The Web Ontology Language (OWL). In our approach, we firstly define the ODM and Ontology UML Profile place in the context of the MDA four-layer architecture and identify the ma… Show more

“…Hence, we define new Ontology entities in the proposed metamodel are defined as extensions of the Ontology element of the Ontology UML Profile (OUP) defined in Ref. 36. The OUP captures ontology concepts with properties and relationships and provides a set of UML elements available to use as semantic types in our metamodel.…”

“…3. The information model is the set service related ontologies described in the standard metamodel ODM [4,9]) (also called ODMNameSpace), while both its functionality (Functionals) in terms of service signature, that are input and output parameters, and specification, that are preconditions and effects, and non-functional parameters (NonFunctionals) such as price, service name and developer are described in the service profile or BlackBox. The GlasBox includes the description of the internal service process and is not considered in this paper.…”

“…Based on [4,9], our initial version of the information model IM of the PIM4SWS is the description logic SHIN(D) related part of the metamodel ODM written in UML; the metamodel of the PIM4SWS-IM is given in [4]. SHIN(D) is the intersection of the description logics underlying OWL-DL and WSML-DL, that are SHOIN(D), respectively, SHIQ(D).…”

“…One candidate for capturing the domain ontologies in UML is by following the UML profile defined by Djuric [5]. The ontology concepts are grouped by packages, where a package represents a domain ontology.…”

“…Several proposals exist to perform transformations between graphical languages and the semantic Web service languages including OWL-to-UML [5], UML-to-OWL-S [21] and OWL-S-to-UML [7]. There are however few transformations defined between other graphical languages and the semantic Web service languages.…”
