MCNP/MCNPX model of the annular core research reactor.

Abstract: Many experimenters at the Annular Core Research Reactor (ACRR) have a need to predict the neutron/gamma environment prior to testing. In some cases, the neutron/gamma environment is needed to understand the test results after the completion of an experiment. In an effort to satisfy the needs of experimenters, a model of the ACRR was developed for use with the Monte Carlo N-Particle transport codes MCNP [Br03] and MCNPX [Wa02]. The model contains adjustable safety, transient, and control rods, several of the av… Show more

“…The value of Q for an event is obtained by integrating the signal current (I n (t)), but the value of n requires additional passive dosimetry. Initially, the average neutron fluence was estimated using a detailed ACRR model in MCNP [2], based off of SAND report values for the LB36 environment [3,4]. The estimate of the neutron fluence was refined and/or corrected through the use of appropriate dosimetry monitor foils as shown in Fig.…”

“…Figures 2 and 3 show the MCNP model of the ACRR [2] with the LB44 bucket and the PLG bucket, respectively, on the 32-inch (81.3 cm) pedestal in the central cavity. The FREC-II model was not included because it is neutronically decoupled (tilted back) from the ACRR for these operations.…”
