Ve výčtu osobností, které zásadním způsobem ovlivnily recepci latinského písemnictví v kulturním prostředí pozdní Byzance, nemůžeme opomenout jméno polyhistora, spisovatele a překladatele Maxima Planúda z Nikomédie (Μάξιμος Πλανούδης, Manuél, kol. 1255(Μάξιμος Πλανούδης, Manuél, kol. -1305. Vedle Planúdových rozličných aktivit -ať již se jednalo o oblast matematiky, astronomie, historické geografi e, teologie či původní literární tvorby -zaujímá význačné místo jeho činnost na poli fi lologie, gramatiky a překladatelství z latinského jazyka do řeckého. Právě těmto oblastem se budeme v našem příspěvku věnovat primárně.Maximos Planúdés je vnímán jako učenec-samouk, přičemž jistou roli pedagoga mohl sehrát Geórgios z Kypru (Grégorios, 1241-1290). 2 Z hlediska získání na svou dobu neobyčejně hlubokých znalostí latinského jazyka se předpokládá Planúdův úzký kontakt s dominikánským klášterem sídlícím v janovské Galatě/Peře, rozprostírající se -viděno z Konstantinopolena protějším břehu přes Zlatý roh. Zde založili dominikáni svůj klášter roku 1233. 3 Jak dobře uvedl britský klasický fi lolog a byzantolog Nigel Guy Wilson (nar. 1935), co se týče získání Planúdových znalostí latinského jazyka, do úvahy rovněž přichází klášter Akataleptos (dnešní Kalenderhane Džámi), kde do roku 1261 žili františkáni a kde později (od roku 1283) působil Pla-1 Článek vznikl v rámci projektu GAČR č. 15-06802S Renesanční fi lozofi e a věda.
