“…It is widely known that the Portugal mainland is a slow seismic deforming region, where the interaction between the African and Eurasian plates can be responsible for large earthquakes. In the last century, the region has experienced at least 116 earthquakes with intensities equal or larger than III on the EMS-98 macroseismic intensity scale (Teves-Costa et al 2019).
