Abstract: The results of this study suggest that Max GD is a simple quantitative prognostic indicator of the disease progression in IgAN patients.

“…8 The rate of the number of segmentally sclerosed glomeruli/remnant glomeruli (total glomerular number minus GS glomeruli) is expressed. 9 The existence of glomerular hypertrophy is defined when the diameter of capillary area is over 250μm [ 13 ]. 10 mtDNA mutation was surveyed in blood, urine, and kidney specimens by the PCR-Luminex method [ 11 ] except Mit2 patient, who was already diagnosed by a gene analysis in the other hospital.…”

“…The glomerular size was measured as glomerular diameter (GD) using imagej 1.51t software (National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA; http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij). Maximum GD was calculated as the mean of the following two measurements: maximal diameter of the glomerulus and the maximal chord perpendicular to the maximal diameter [19].…”

“…Ten mature glomeruli per section were selected at random for analysis of glomerular diameter. We assessed the maximum diameter ( d ) of each glomerulus, as an indicator of glomerular size (Kataoka et al, ) by Aperio image analysis software. Glomerulus in six sections were assessed and the diameter averaged in each animal in both the groups; the mean glomerular diameter was then compared between the neonatal hyperoxia‐exposed and the room air groups. Glomerular number & density : Each kidney was evaluated as follows: every 13th section of the kidney was selected and examined histologically and all the glomeruli in that section were counted.…”
