Maxillary Second Molar with Single Root and Single Canal—Case Report

Abstract: The maxillary second molar contains three roots and three canals. Variations of the maxillary second molar are reported in numerous studies in vitro and in vivo. Dentists are required to have adequate knowledge related to root canal morphology and their possible variations. The aim of this study was to present a case report about a diagnosis and treatment in maxillary second molar with single root and single canal. It is concluded that the diagnosing of these unusual cases is of high importance for successful … Show more

“…Even though the occurrence of single rooted maxillary second molar and a single canal is not high, diagnosing these unusual cases is of tremendous importance for successful endodontic treatment of these teeth. 22 There are some limitations of this study. This was an in-vivo study with only a small sample size which may not show all root canal anatomy variations in the local population.…”

“…mesiobuccal and mesiolingual). 4 Cases of maxillary second molars with two, four, five and even one root with variations in the number of canals has also been reported. 4 The majority of studies are related to the maxillary first molars but variations of maxillary second molars are rare.…”

“…Anatomical and morphological variations and rare abnormalities of roots and root canal systems had been shown in previous studies [1,2,3]. The literature shows that maxillary molars can present from the simplest to the extensively complicated root and root canal anatomy and morphology [8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. Not much difference was found for mandibular molars [6,[15][16][17][18][19].…”
