“…It is also important to stress that such concerns about robotic methods are based on a small number of scientific analyses and are greatly influenced by negative feedback from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the MAUDE (Manufacturer and User Facility Device Experience) database. These are largely concerned with the functioning of da VINCI in different surgical specialties and are not backed up by sufficient data [ 64 67 ]. In contrast, over 700 successful donor nephrectomies have been performed to date as well as more than 70 renal transplants, which have contributed to a reduced number of infections and other side risk factors correlated with standard open renal replacement.…”

“…The database is one component of the FDA's post‐market surveillance efforts capturing the adverse events observed with a specific device among all types of practitioners. The database has been utilized by other surgical specialties to evaluate devices, but has been used infrequently as a resource in dermatology . A review done by a group of interventional radiologists found new, and conflicting, information when comparing the FDA MDRs to previously published literature .…”

“…The rate of perioperative complications of robotic surgery was 8.11% in our study, which was close to other reports (14.4% 16 and 8.3% 17). But another paper 18 suggested that 26% of reported events resulted in injury, 8.5% resulted in death, and 21% of injuries were attributed to operator-related error, 14% to technical system failure, 65% were not directly related to use of the robot, so it was important to continue to evaluate the occurrence of injuries during robot-assisted surgery in an effort to identify unique challenges associated with this advanced technology.…”
