“…Matrix-assisted photochemical vapour generation was used by Zhen et al to determine Bi in iron–nickel alloy samples using ICP-MS detection. 25 The alloys (0.5 g) were digested using aqua regia (10 mL) on a hotplate at 60 °C for an hour and then the digests heated to almost dryness at 90 °C. They were then re-constituted to 10 mL with water and an aliquot of 150 μL removed, mixed with formic acid and acetic acid and pumped at a rate of 3.8 mL min −1 into a reactor.…”

“…Glow discharge mass spectrometry (GD-MS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) both have high sensitivity and low limit of detection (LOD), so they are considered as effective methods to analyze trace and ultratrace elements in high-purity alloys. GD-MS can directly analyze solid samples; therefore, it has been extensively applied for analyzing rod-like or lump-like high-purity metal and alloy materials with multiple dimensions. However, GD-MS requires solid conductivity calibration standards for analyzing the elements. Compared with liquid sample digests, solid sample as analysis object is more problematic to achieve automation of sample changeover.…”
