Mathematical modelling of the degradation kinetics of Bacillus cereus grown on phenol

Abstract: The mathematical modelling of the effect of substrate concentration on growth rate of bacteria is crucial in the understanding of the many phenomena in xenobiotics biodegradation. The rate constants obtained from this modeling allow the mathematical prediction of growth parameters. We remodelled a previously published work on phenol degradation by Bacillus cereus MTCC9817 strain AKG1 using several more growth kinetic models such as Monod, Teissier, Andrews and Noack, Hinshelwood, Moser, Aiba, Webb (Edward), Ya… Show more

“…In most of such studies, the Haldane model was utilized to model reduction rate in the metals mercury [17], arsenate [19] and chromate [18]. In other similar works with xenobiotics, the Luong model has been fount to be the best model for several cases such as the degradation kinetics of Bacillus cereus grown on phenol [53], modelling of tributytinresistant Klebsiella sp. FIRD 2 In cadmium media [54], growth inhibition kinetics of Rhodotorula sp.…”

“…Data from Figure 6a from a published work [6] were digitized using the software Webplotdigitizer 2.5 [15].The accuracy of data digitized with this program has been verified [16,17]. The data were first converted to qt values and then nonlinearly regressed using the curve-fitting software CurveExpert Professional software (Version 1.6).…”
