Material Flow Analysis of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment in Ukraine

Abstract: The composition of widespread electronic devices (mobile phone, computer mouse, keyboard, web-camera, monitor) was studied by manual dismantling. The material flow analysis was conducted for e-waste components. For the case study of Ukraine, five devices under investigation contain over 4 thousand tons / year resources. Most of them (first of all, plastic and metal) can be easily recovered. The content of chemical elements in the components of the electronic devices was determined by X-ray fluorescence analysi… Show more

“…China's lithium reserves are 8.1 million tons, accounting for 6.3% of the global total reserves, but due to poor mining conditions and high development costs, the external dependence of lithium resources is as high as 67% (Rong, 2018). Recycling cobalt, lithium and other resources from used Li-ion batteries can effectively alleviate the pressure of cobalt and lithium resources import (Hlavatska et al, 2021). With the large-scale decommissioning of power batteries in the future, the valuable metals obtained through recycling can meet more than half of the raw material demand for lithium-ion battery materials (Wang and He, 2020).…”

“…Intensification of technological processes while reducing energy consumption is one of the principles of eco-friendly technologies of modern production. The concept of sustainable development and the implementation of green technologies are leading in the development of European countries (Bezsonov et al, 2017;Ishchenko et al, 2019;Hlavatska et al, 2021;Mitryasova et al, 2017;Pohrebennyk et al, 2019, Petrov et al, 2020. Under the conditions of the modern development of production, with a constant decrease in resources, there is a need for optimization of differences in technological process requirements and supporting resources environmental security.…”
