Matching the Performance of Saudi Arabian Oil Fields With an Electrical Model

Abstract: This paper describes an electrical model and its application to the analysis of four reservoirs in Saudi Arabia. The model has 2,501 mesh points and represents 35,000 sq miles of the Arab-D member. Details of modeling such as mesh size, control problems and standards of performance in matching reservoir history are discussed. The particular performance match achieved for the Arad-D member is presented. Details such as permeability barriers, aquifer depletion and interference between oil fields are given. The p… Show more

“…Валь и другие исследователи представили применение емкостной резистивной модели для тестирования производительности четырех самых крупнейших месторождений Саудовской Аравии [2]. Они использовали контроллеры для ввода наблюдаемых дебитов и давлений, следующим шагом выполнили регулировку емкостей и сопротивлений для проведения адаптации расчетных показателей с историческими данными.…”

“…In the reservoir, fluids can be accumulated due to its compressibility, while in the circuits electrons are stored in the capacitors. Wahl et al [5] presented the application of capacitor-resistor networks to match the performance of four of the most prolific fields in Saudi Arabia (Figure 2b). They used controllers to input observed rates and pressures and pursued a trial-and-error procedure adjusting capacitances and resistances for the history matching.…”

“…He used the matched model to predict the future. Wahl et al (1962) used an electrical model to represent the reservoir model and used it in order to match the performance of Saudi Arabian oil fields. Jacquard (1964) showed that there is a mathematical relationship between an electric resistance-capacity network and a reservoir model.…”
