Massively Distributed Bayesian Analysis of Electric Aircraft Battery Degradation

Alexander Bills,
Leif Fredericks,
Valentin Sulzer
et al.

Abstract: Electric vertical takeoff and landing (EVTOL) aircraft have high power and energy requirements that must be understood throughout their batteries’ life. Using a fast electrochemical model and high throughput computing, we independently and simultaneously sample the degradation modes for 21392 cycles of an EVTOL aircraft battery data set, obtaining a posterior probability distribution for each degradation mode throughout the life of the aircraft. The model shows a median error of 32.5 mV (or 1.9%) across all cy… Show more

“…These challenges include uncertainties concerning suppliers' capacity and pricing of parts in the aviation and automotive industries [55,56], which the EM is also expected to face in its supply chain planning. Along with this, another main challenge for the EM in strategic supplier selection and procurement planning would be the scarcity of certain metals required by battery suppliers to manufacture batteries for eVTOLs [57], which are one of the vital eVTOL parts. This scarcity can lead to a shortage of suppliers in the market, potentially disrupting the supply chain planning of the EM.…”
