“…The results of the tests in Case 2 show that as little as 12 cm of the terminal part of the ileum may be sufficient for normal vitamin B12 absorption and impaired absorption cannot be predicted solely from the length of intestine resected. Measurement of the length of the remaining small intestine might be a better indication of absorptive capacity (24).
