Massive-evolution effects on charmonium hadroproduction

Abstract: The fragmentation functions D a→H (x, µ 2 ) of a heavy hadron H, with mass m H , satisfy the phase-space constraint D a→H (x, µ 2 ) = 0 for x < m 2 H /µ 2 , which is violated by the naive µ 2 evolution equations. Using appropriately generalized µ 2 evolution equations, we reconsider the inclusive hadroproduction of prompt J/ψ mesons with high transverse momenta in the framework of the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, and determine the resulting shifts in the values of the lead… Show more

“…[19] in the photoproduction limit. Using these expressions, one can also get the unpolarized cross sections for different subprocesses, which were reproduced by the authors of [27] for the γ * T + g(q) processes. However, there is a factor of 2 difference from theirs for the γ * L + g(q) processes except the γ * L + g → cc( 1 S 0 , 8) + g process.…”

“…With the parametrization of the D meson spectra known in the B rest system we calculated the D meson spectra in the moving system as a function of k ′ L = xP B where k ′ L is the D meson momentum that is parallel to P B using Eq. (3.16) in [28] with M ψ replaced by the rest mass of the respective D meson. The exact formula for dΓ/dx as given in [28] is rather difficult to evaluate since P B depends on p T and the rapidity y of the produced D meson.…”

The exact formula for dΓ/dx as given in [28] is rather difficult to evaluate since P B depends on p T and the rapidity y of the produced D meson. Therefore, as in our previous work [13] we applied for dΓ/dx the asymptotic formula, also given in [28].…”

“…In the picture where the fragmenting parton a creates a jet that includes the observed hadron H, the parton virtuality p 2 a must exceed the hadron mass square m 2 H . In fact, if the scaling variable z is defined in terms of light-cone momenta, as [20]. Since the outgoing partons are taken to be on-shell in the parton model, this inequality becomes m 2 > m 2 H /z.…”
