Mass transfer simulation on pervaporation dehydration of ethanol through hollow fiber NaA zeolite membranes

Abstract: A multi-layer series-resistance mass transfer model was developed to simulate mass transfer behaviors of water/ethanol mixture through hollow fiber NaA zeolite membranes. The mass transfer through zeolite layer was described by Maxwell-Stefan mechanism based on adsorption and diffusion parameters obtained from molecular simulation. The mass transfer through asymmetric hollow fiber support was described by dusty gas model involving Knudsen diffusion and viscous flow. It was found that the sponge-like layer of s… Show more

“…208,213,214 The majority of zeolite membranes are in single-channel tube form, although multichannel tubes and monoliths, as well as hollow fibers, are emerging. 199,[215][216][217][218] Reports of zeolite PV membranes began to appear in the patent and scientific literature several years after polymeric PV membranes. One informal measure of the timing of the emergence of zeolite PV membranes relative to polymeric PV membranes can be found in the papers presented at the International Conference on Pervaporation Processes in the Chemical Industry, a conference held from 1986 through 1995.…”

“…Towards the mass transfer through the hollow fiber NaA zeolite membrane, Ye et al [63] developed a multi-layer series-resistance (MLSR) model to describe pervaporation dehydration of ethanol through hollow fiber NaA zeolite membranes. The membrane was divided into three transfer-resistance regions in series as shown in Fig.…”
