Mass spectrometric study of colchicine and its synthetic derivatives 10-alkylthiocolchicines

Abstract: The mass spectra behaviour of five 10-alkylthiocolchicine derivatives has been studied using electron ionization and MALDI-TOF MS techniques. Fragmentation patterns of colchicines derivatives after EI have been investigated, as well as mass spectra after collision-induced dissociation (CID) MALDI have been used to gain structural information. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the MALDI MS/MS data for colchicine and its alkylthio derivatives have been described. It has been shown also th… Show more

“…At the collision energy of 40 eV, single fragment ions appear and more profound fragmentation starts at 50-60 eV. As follows from the data obtained, that colchicine complexes of potassium are not prone to collisional dissociation in general, while sodium complexes decompose to form fragments that correspond to previously reported fragments of colchicine [24][25][26]. Complexes of colchicine with sodium sulfate show a greater resistance to collisions than those with sodium carbonate.…”

“…and not from the methoxy groups attached to the six-membered aromatic ring (Table 1). 14 After transforming the MS data and building up the Kendrick plot (Figure 2), the formation of several homologous series of precursor ions is clearly visible. The colchicine precursor ion is part of a homologous series (a) along with protonated pseudo- 2).…”
