Mass optimization of a compressed cylindrical shell with limited life

Abstract: A new optimization model is proposed to design corrosion-affected structures with limited life. The optimization problem is stated as a nonlinear-programming problem. The mass of the structure is minimized. The design is considered optimal when physical wear and obsolescence arrive simultaneously.
