Mass and Strength Variations in Yarns

Abstract

Results are reported of a study on the strength and mass variations for the same part of the yarn. Equations are derived by regression for both carded and combed cottons. A general equation is also derived by grouping all the results. Comparison was carried out of the present results with these of previous work and values obtained in mill practice; better agreement was found in the case of combed yarns than in carded yarns. Carded cotton yarns showed better correlation between mass and strength variations than combed cotton yarns. Also, the results of this work give values different from those previously reported.
