Masa renal asintomática como primera manifestación de carcinoma folicular de tiroides

Abstract: Metastases in the kidney are rare, evenmore if primary source is thyroid. We report the tenth case of metastases in the kidney from thyroid, and it is the first to be follicular type and absolutely asymptom. Sonography and computerized tomography with suspicion of renal tumour are showed in a asymtom female 75 years old. Left partial nephrectomy was perfomed, initially it has been pathologically diagnosed as renal clear cells tumour, however the definitive pathologic report showed follicular tumour of thyroid.… Show more

“…Several similar diseases need to be differentially diagnosed, as follows. Renal metastasis of thyroid follicular carcinoma or papillary carcinoma is very rare, with less than 20 cases reported in the literature, [3032] and requires comprehensive identification based on the combination of disease history, thyroid-related examination, and immunohistochemistry. Renal primary clear cell, papillary, or cystic renal cell carcinoma is characterized by all 3 tumors showing no follicle-like structures and eosinophilic colloid-like substances.…”

“…Metastatic thyroid follicular carcinoma to the kidney is extremely rare and only 16 cases have been reported, all but 1 occurring in the presence of widespread metastatic disease involving other organs ( 23 25 ). It can be easily distinguished from TLFC of the kidney by its positive immunohistochemical staining for TTF-1 and thyroglobulin.…”

“…Only sixteen cases of metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma to the kidney have been reported, all but one occurring in the presence of widespread metastatic disease involving other organs [1012]. In each case, there was clinical or radiological confirmation of a primary thyroid malignancy, and all these tumours demonstrated positive immunoreactivity to TTF-1 and Tg.…”
