Artykuł prezentuje stopień zaangażowania mieszkańców Darłowa oraz Wrześni w proces segregacji odpadów komunalnych. Celem pracy była analiza stanu wiedzy mieszkańców na temat segregacji odpadów oraz ich d alszego losu. Oceny dokonano na podstawie ankietyzacji lokalnej społeczności, która została podzielona na trzy grupy w zależności od wieku. Każda grupa składała się ze 100 mieszkańców Darłowa oraz Wrześni. Z uzyskanych danych wynika, że mieszkańcy wykazują zadowalający stan wiedzy na temat konieczności segregacji odpadów. Dalszy los wyselekcjonowanych odpadów nie jest znany większości ankietowanych osób. Respondenci najczęściej wskazywali na możliwość utylizacji odpadów komunalnych przez ich składowanie. Poziom wiedzy na temat gospodarki odpadami był większy wśród mieszkańców Darłowa niż Wrześni. Generalnie mężczyźni prezentowali większy zakres informacji na ten temat. Kompleksową wiedzą, obejmującą cały proces zarządzania odpadami, charakteryzowała się grupa osób powyżej 60 roku życia.
